Specsavers
Overview
Sovereign Construction has been successfully working with Specsavers for the past 12 years and has completed numerous successful major refurbishment projects and new stores for the company. As a preferred supplier, Sovereign Construction was selected to refurbish and extend an existing Optical Express retail unit in Eastbourne which would involve:
- Re-roofing the existing property which required structural upgrading
- Soft demolitions to remove internal partitioning, reducing to a shell
- Replacing all internal finishes including ceilings and flooring
- First floor conversion and refurbishment to include new accommodation for Optical Laboratories for onsite production, together with an Ear Care section
- Ground floor refurbishment and refit to new updated design
Challenges
This project had a number of significant challenges for the Sovereign Construction Management team, including;
- Busy High Street location
- Difficult access and minimal site accommodation
- Maintaining the store in a trading condition without inconveniencing staff or customers
- A program of works in order to maintain trading and comply with health and safety legislation
- Fixed completion date by which the refurbishment works needed to be handed back to the client due to pre-booked advertising and re-launch of the newly designed store
Sovereign Solution
Through careful and thorough planning Sovereign Construction was able to complete the project within the required frame time, without causing disruption to staff and customers, with works programmed and phased during pre-agreed out of hours periods. Sovereign Construction also ensured that CDM (Construction Design Management) considerations were adhered to and that the health and safety of the branch staff and customers was fully accommodated throughout the construction project.
